Booking and Payment

How do I book a hire car online with Zuzu Rent A Car?

You can book in a few steps: choose your pick-up and drop-off locations, dates and times in the search box on the home page, then browse the cars available. Pick a car class, add any extras you need and enter the driver's details. Once you've paid online in the final step, your booking is made. When you collect the car, all you need are your documents and a credit card in the main driver's name.

What affects the price of car hire?

The price depends on the car class, how long you hire it for, the season, your pick-up and drop-off locations and any extras you add. Returning the car to a different location (a one-way hire) carries an extra charge, which is shown clearly while you book. You can see live prices by entering your dates and locations on the cars page, and you'll always see the full total before you get to the payment step.

Which payment methods do you accept?

You can pay online with a credit or debit card in the final step of your booking. Payments are processed through a licensed payment institution and verified with 3D Secure. For the deposit hold taken at the start of the hire, however, you'll need a credit card in the main driver's name.

Is paying online safe? Do you store my card details?

Yes, paying online is safe, and we don't store your card details on our website. Your card details are handled directly by the licensed payment institution, and each payment is confirmed through your bank's 3D Secure check – usually a one-time code sent to your phone. That means no payment goes through without your approval.

Can I hire a car with a debit card?

You can pay for the hire itself with a debit card, but you'll need a credit card in the main driver's name for the deposit hold when you collect the car. The deposit isn't a charge: it's a temporary hold on your available credit limit, which is released after you return the car. It's worth checking that your credit limit is high enough before the day of collection.

Will I get exactly the car shown in my booking?

You book a car class rather than a specific model, which is why the models in our list are marked "or similar". If the model you chose isn't available at pick-up, you'll be given an equivalent car from the same class. For example, our Economy class includes the Renault Clio, Renault Taliant and Dacia Sandero, while the Family class includes the Citroën Berlingo and Opel Zafira.

How do I add extras such as a child seat or sat nav?

You can add extras during booking, in the extras step. The options are an additional driver, a baby or child seat, sat nav, minor damage cover, tyre, glass and headlight cover, and a toll (HGS) package. The price of each extra is shown as you select it and added to your total; adding items such as child seats to your booking makes sure they're ready for you at pick-up.

Driver Requirements and Documents

How old do you have to be to hire a car?

You need to be at least 21 to hire an Economy car and at least 23 for every other class (Mid-size, SUV and Family). The same age requirement applies to any additional drivers. Each car's requirements are also listed on its own page.

How long do I need to have held my driving licence?

You need to have held your licence for at least 1 year for the Economy class and at least 2 years for all other classes. This is counted from the date your licence was first issued. If you don't meet the requirement, the hire may not go ahead at the counter, so it's best to check the rules for your chosen class before you book.

What documents do I need to pick up the car?

You'll need three things at pick-up: a Turkish ID card (or a passport for non-Turkish citizens), a valid driving licence and a credit card in the main driver's name. Please bring the originals rather than copies. If you've added an additional driver, they'll also need to show their ID and driving licence.

Can foreign visitors hire a car in Turkey?

Yes, visitors from abroad can hire a car with a passport, a valid driving licence and a credit card in their own name. The age and licence requirements are the same as for Turkish citizens. If you're unsure whether your licence can be used in Turkey, email us at [email protected] before you book and we'll help.

Can I add another driver to my hire?

Yes, you can add an additional driver in the extras step of your booking. They must meet the same age and licence requirements as the main driver for the class you've chosen. Because someone who isn't named on the agreement driving the car can affect your insurance cover, everyone who will drive should be registered as a driver.

Can the credit card be in someone else's name?

No, the credit card used for the deposit hold must be in the name of the main driver. A card belonging to a partner, relative or anyone else – including a company card in another person's name – can't be accepted for this. At pick-up, we check that the cardholder and the driver are the same person.

Pick-up and Return

Where can I pick up a car from Zuzu Rent A Car?

In Trabzon, you can collect your car at Trabzon Airport or in Trabzon City Centre (Meydan). In Istanbul, our locations are Istanbul Airport, Sabiha Gökçen Airport, Istanbul City Centre (our Kadıköy office) and Istanbul Coach Station (Otogar). You choose your pick-up and drop-off points while booking, so you can start your trip as soon as you land or straight from the city centre.

Can I return the car to a different location?

Yes, you can make a one-way hire by choosing a different drop-off location when you book. One-way hires carry an extra charge, which is shown on the booking screen before you pay. You can try different combinations – for example, collecting at Trabzon Airport and returning in Trabzon City Centre – in the booking form to see the price.

What should I check when I collect the car?

Before you drive off, walk round the car with our staff and check the bodywork, windows, tyres and interior, making sure any existing scratches or damage are recorded on the handover form. It's also useful to note the fuel level and mileage so you can compare them when you return the car. Before signing the agreement, check the deposit amount, the daily mileage limit and the extras you've chosen.

What do I need to do when I return the car?

Return the car on the date and at the time and location stated in your agreement, with the same fuel level as when you collected it. Our staff will check the car with you and record the fuel level and mileage. If everything is in order, the hire is closed and the deposit hold starts to be released.

What happens if I return the car late?

Returning the car after the time in your agreement may lead to additional hire charges under the terms of the agreement. If you think your trip will run over or you'll be late, the best thing to do is let us know in advance at [email protected]. That way we can look at extending your hire together, subject to availability.

Can I take the hire car abroad?

No, the car can't be taken outside Turkey without Zuzu Rent A Car's written permission. If you're planning to cross a border, please contact us at [email protected] before booking. Taking the car abroad without permission may leave you without insurance cover and breach your rental agreement.

Deposit, Insurance and Damage

Do you take a deposit, and how much is it?

Yes, a deposit hold is placed on the main driver's credit card at the start of the hire. The amount depends on the car class and is shown on each car's page. Before booking, it's a good idea to check that your available credit limit will cover it.

Is the deposit taken from my card?

No, the deposit is a pre-authorisation, not a charge: the amount is temporarily held against your available credit limit and no money leaves your account. The hold is released once the car is returned without any issues. If charges set out in the agreement arise – such as the damage excess, missing fuel, traffic fines or tolls – they may be covered from the deposit in line with the agreement.

When will my deposit be released?

The hold is released once the car has been returned and checked. How long it takes for the amount to show on your available limit depends on your bank. If it seems to be taking longer than expected, check with your bank first, then get in touch with us at [email protected].

Are hire cars insured?

Yes, all our cars have compulsory third-party (traffic) insurance and comprehensive cover (kasko). The excess and the scope of cover are set out in your rental agreement; the excess is the amount you're responsible for if the car is damaged. For extra peace of mind, you can add minor damage cover and tyre, glass and headlight cover when you book.

What do minor damage cover and tyre, glass and headlight cover include?

These optional covers give you extra protection alongside the standard comprehensive cover, for minor damage and for damage to parts such as tyres, glass and headlights. Their scope, price and the situations they apply to are shown on the booking screen and in your rental agreement. Many customers choose them for long drives or trips out of the city to reduce the risk of unexpected costs.

What should I do if I have an accident or the car is damaged?

First make sure you and everyone else are safe, then let us know straight away. In an accident, getting the required report completed in line with current regulations – a joint accident report or, where needed, an official police report – is essential for the insurance claim. Don't try to repair the car or settle privately before a report has been made; how the damage is covered depends on your insurance and the excess in your agreement.

Fuel, Mileage and Tolls

What is the fuel policy for hire cars?

You should return the car with the same amount of fuel as when you collected it. The fuel level is recorded at pick-up and checked again on return. Checking the fuel gauge together with our staff at pick-up helps avoid any disagreement later.

What happens if I return the car with less fuel?

If the car comes back with less fuel than when you collected it, the missing fuel is charged at the rate set out in your agreement. This amount may also be covered from the deposit in line with the agreement. The simplest way to avoid the extra cost is to fill up to the same level at a station near the drop-off point.

Is there a mileage limit on hire cars?

Yes, each car has a daily mileage limit, shown on its page. The limit is applied in relation to the number of days you hire the car for. If you're planning a long drive, check the limit for your chosen car before you book.

How much will I pay if I go over the mileage limit?

If you go over the limit, a charge applies for each extra kilometre. The rate is set out in the car's details and the rental agreement, and it's calculated from the odometer reading when you return the car. If you're planning a long route, choosing a longer hire period or a different car with a higher overall allowance can help keep costs down.

Who pays bridge and motorway tolls?

Any bridge and motorway tolls during your hire are paid by the hirer. To make tolls easier to manage, you can add the toll (HGS) package when you book. Unpaid tolls may be covered from the deposit or passed on to you afterwards, in line with the agreement.

What happens if I get a traffic fine in a hire car?

Any traffic fines incurred during your hire are the hirer's responsibility. When a fine reaches us as the vehicle owner, it is passed on to the driver for that rental period in line with current regulations and the terms of the agreement. Such amounts may also be covered from the deposit under the agreement.

Cancellations, Changes and Membership

Can I cancel my car hire booking for free?

Yes, if you cancel up to 48 hours before your pick-up time, there's no charge and you'll get a full refund. For example, if you're collecting the car at 10:00 on a Friday, you can cancel free of charge until 10:00 on the Wednesday. You'll find the full terms on our Cancellations, Refunds and Changes page.

What if I cancel less than 48 hours before pick-up?

If you cancel less than 48 hours before pick-up, one day's hire charge may be deducted and the rest refunded to your card. If your plans might change, consider changing your dates instead of cancelling. Changes depend on availability, and we'll let you know about any price difference in advance.

What happens if I don't turn up to collect the car?

If you don't collect the car and haven't cancelled your booking, one day's hire charge may be deducted. If you're going to be late – because your flight is delayed, for instance – let us know before your pick-up time so we can keep your booking.

How long does a refund take to reach my card?

Refunds go back to the card you paid with. How long it takes to appear on your account or available limit depends on your bank. If you can't see the refund after a while, check with your bank first, then contact us at [email protected].

Can I change the dates or car on my booking?

Yes, you can change your dates or car, subject to availability. If the new dates or car class come at a different price, we'll tell you the difference before you confirm. Sending your request to [email protected] as early as possible before pick-up gives you the best chance of finding a suitable car.

Do I need an account to hire a car?

No, you can book without creating an account. If you'd like, you can sign up on our website and make your bookings through your account – membership is entirely optional. Whether you're a member or not, the driver requirements, documents and cancellation terms are the same.
